This woven sculpture involves several materials that, combined into a single form, constitute a material language addressing trans embodiment, childhood, and transition as a complex, non-linear process. The warp of these weavings is dyed with children’s nail polish. The weft involves gauze bandages, as well as glitter glue which I have allowed to dry on my skin and then peeled off. However, the primary weft material is water-soluble interfacing. This is a material that is designed for use in embroidery projects so that it can be washed down the drain without a trace once the project is finished. In these sculptures, this transient material remains present and visible as an intrinsic part of the woven structure.
